Remote wilderness

Weheragala National Park (Yala Block 5)

For guests seeking a quieter and more remote safari setting, Weheragala reveals a wilder side of the Yala region. Its rugged dry-zone forest, rocky outcrops, seasonal waterholes, and narrow tracks create a rewarding drive for travellers who enjoy exploring away from the busiest routes. With lower visitor numbers, there is more time to slow down, listen for birdlife, and look carefully for elephants, deer, monkeys, peafowl, and other wildlife moving through the forest. It is an excellent option for guests who value peaceful scenery, patient wildlife viewing, and a genuine off-the-beaten-track safari atmosphere.

Lunugamwehera National Park (Yala Block 6)

Lunugamwehera combines dry forest, open grassland, and rich water habitats around its large reservoir. The changing landscape attracts elephants, spotted deer, water buffalo, crocodiles, and a wonderful variety of wetland and forest birds, especially near the water's edge. Its wide views and quieter tracks offer a relaxed alternative to the busiest Yala routes, while still delivering the excitement of a true Sri Lankan wildlife safari. It is particularly appealing for nature lovers who enjoy reservoir scenery, birdwatching, and unhurried game drives with excellent chances of elephant encounters.
